Why this works

Why the same fight keeps coming back

Most recurring couple conflicts aren't really about the dishes, the phone, or the in-laws. Gottman's research found that roughly two-thirds of conflict in long-term relationships is perpetual — rooted in personality and need, not in a solvable logistics problem. Couples who do well aren't the ones who solve those fights. They're the ones who learn to have them without contempt.

What usually breaks down first is the ability to hear the request underneath the complaint. "You never help" is a bid for partnership. "Why are you like this" is usually fear wearing armor. When both people are activated, neither can do that translation in real time — which is exactly the gap an outside voice fills.

What talking separately actually changes

In a normal argument you're composing your rebuttal while the other person is still talking. Nobody is listening; both are defending. Talking to a mediator separately removes the audience, and with it the need to win.

You get to say the ugly first draft — the resentful, unfair, three-years-old version — without it becoming evidence in the relationship. What comes back is the signal, not the noise: the need that was underneath, phrased in a way your partner can actually receive. Your partner does the same on their side, and both of you see the synthesis rather than each other's raw transcript.

This is not a replacement for couples therapy

If there is abuse, coercion, or fear in the relationship, mediation of any kind is the wrong tool and can be actively unsafe — a licensed professional is the right call. The same is true for active addiction or untreated crisis.

For everything else — the stuck loop, the slow drift, the fight you've had eleven times — this is a place to start when therapy is too expensive, has a six-week waitlist, or feels like too big a step for a problem you can't quite name yet.

Common questions

Can AI really help with relationship problems?
It helps with the part most couples get stuck on: articulating what you actually feel and need before the conversation turns into a fight. It is not a therapist and cannot treat clinical issues, but for the recurring argument neither of you can name, having each side think out loud with a neutral listener first changes what the conversation becomes.
Does my partner see what I said?
No. Each person's conversation is private. The AI synthesizes what both of you need to hear and shares only that — never the raw transcript, and never without consent.
Is this a replacement for couples therapy?
No. It is a lower-cost, always-available starting point, and it is useful between sessions if you are already in therapy. If there is abuse, coercion, or fear in your relationship, please work with a licensed professional instead.
What if my partner won't participate?
You can use it alone. A lot of people start solo to understand their own pattern first — what they're actually asking for, and which part of the fight is theirs — and invite their partner later, or never.
